It’s More Fun to Study in Paradise – by Lyngel Pastor

19th January 2024

Have you ever dreamed of living and studying in paradise? Picture your backyard as the awe-inspiring “Great Barrier Reef,” one of the 7 Wonders of the world, and the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree.

Hi, I’m Lyngel. In my early childhood, I was surrounded by greenery, exploring nature, playing in the mud, planting veggies in our garden, swimming in the river, and climbing trees to pick fruits –moments I cherish to
this day. Nature is ingrained in my DNA. Life has been a roller coaster, but the thrill to do more and be better fuels me every single day. From working as a banquet receptionist in 5 – star hotels and restaurants in the Philippines to being a team lead for a leading Japanese fashion brand in the bustling city of Singapore, my journey has been diverse and dynamic. Yet, after a few years, a realisation struck me during the challenging times of Covid

I needed to be closer to nature, maybe on an island. I visualised myself on an island, sipping coconut water, reading a book in a hammock, with my own garden and real work – life balance. I actually thought that I was visualising Siargao, a popular island in the Philippines. Guess you will google this place ☺️

However, a call from my cousin and her partner gave me a sign or a confirmation from the universe. They excitedly shared how Cairns, with its beautiful mountains and beaches, resembled the Philippines and started to spark my curiosity. Now, I’m on a new adventure, studying Early Childhood Education. My goal is to instil in young minds the love for nature and the sustainable use of natural resources, and of course, their overall well-being development is very important to me. Living here is like having a front-row seat to the best show in town. Cairns isn’t just a place to study, but it’s also an adventure filled with exciting tours in the city and the surroundings.

During study breaks, I immerse myself in underwater adventures, exploring the breathtaking coral reef system. Fitzroy is land, a favourite spot, offers the perfect blend of snorkelling to see the marine world, lying on fine sand, witnessing stunning sunrises, and hiking. Cycling around the city is a visual feast, and the beach volleyball and other ball courts near the Esplanade add a touch of excitement. Weekends are for Rusty’s Market, where I indulge in rainbow fruits for my juices. Volunteering in a community garden and meeting international students, dancing salsa, yoga and meditation that connect me to nature, grounding me in this paradise. As an international student, every day in Cairns feels like a page from a storybook. The quality of education, the close-knit community, and the city’s adventurous spirit have transformed my time here into something not just memorable but truly MAGICAL.

Why not join us in Cairns, where your STUDIES MEETS PARADISE in an adventure of a lifetime?

Love,
Lyngel
