Cairns has a wide variety of accommodation types, some of which are designed specifically for international students. Other options to consider are renting a house or apartment, (whether furnished or unfurnished) or to stay in one of the many hotels, resorts or serviced apartments.

Cairns Sharehouse are the experts in the Sharehouse accommodation business. They provide clean, comfortable accommodation in locations across Cairns city.

Cairns Student Lodge is affordable student accommodation within easy reach of James Cook University in Cairns northern beaches suburbs. The Lodge has a community feel where students enjoy a supportive environment.

MiHaven Student Living has opened two brand new purpose-built student accommodation facilities in Cairns city in early 2018. Modern and with latest innovations in technology, MiHaven offers cutting edge, smart living accommodation.

YHA Cairns Backpacker hostel has 59 rooms including dorm, twin and family rooms in the heart of Cairns. All rooms are air-conditioned and many have ensuites.

Houses and Apartments for rent

Cairns has a wide range of rental accommodation in the city centre, inner city as well as the popular northern beaches suburbs. Sharing a lease with other students is an economical option.

Rental prices depend upon the number of bedrooms, location and quality of the premises. A rough guide is somewhere between A$100 to A$290 per person, per week, whether part or full board. Allow approximately A$60 to A$100 per person extra for food, electricity and telephone expenses. Short and long-term rentals are available.

The local newspaper the Cairns Post runs advertisements, as do real estate websites. Visit the crew at the Student Hub who may have information on the best place to find current vacancies.

Hotels and Resorts

As Cairns is such a popular tourism destination, there are a huge number of youth hostels, hotels, resorts and serviced apartments for short or long-term stays. Many hotels are located in the Cairns CBD and inner suburbs while serviced apartments may be found further afield in the northern beaches suburbs.
