Study Cairns Employability Project

About this Project

The Study Cairns Employability Project provides globally relevant 21st-century skills development for students in Cairns to enhance their employment prospects in Australia and abroad. We offer a number of activities to help students land jobs, such as career planning, employability workshops, one-on-one consultations for resume writing, interview preparation, as well as career mentoring throughout students’ professional journey in Australia.

CONNECTS Program

If you are looking for a real-world work experience in Australia, you can join the CONNECTS Program. The program aims to provide Clients with real outputs by having culturally diverse, multidisciplinary teams work on key business challenges. In partnership with online experiential learning platform, Practera, the program has these two components:

  1. Business Project Program (BPP) – BPP is a three-week virtual work-integrated learning program where local students from any university/VET course will work collaboratively to deliver a business project for a Cairns region Government Agency, Business or Nonprofit. Successful teams receive a digital badge. You will be supported by a structured program, learning content via Practera’s technology platform and a mentor.
  2. Launch U Trade Accelerator (LTA) – LTA is a two-week virtual work-integrated learning program where students from Business-related courses will work in a team to produce an international market research report in response to a project brief submitted by a Queensland based exporter or trade professional. Successful teams receive a digital badge. Team will be composed of students from different universities in Queensland, which is a great opportunity for students to expand their social connections.

Internship Program

This Program connects international students with local employers seeking interns. It is a fantastic opportunity to experiment the Australian workplace culture, develop professional skills and have a local experience to add to your resume. The internship is of variable duration, from several weeks to several months. Email the Project Coordinator for more details at connects@studycairns.com.au

Student testimonials

“We were placed into a team consisting of 5 people from different educational and cultural background. I was selected as a team leader and it gave me opportunity to build up my leadership skills. Working with people whose background is diverse is actually an advantage to broaden your insights and enrich your listening skills and understanding.” Dwi, international student

“I love how this program connects international students with local companies. I have always wished to have an opportunity like this, not just for a good CV, but also for a realistic learning experience. Despite the short amount of time, I made some good friends and learned a lot about teamwork skills. The mentor and client were absolutely supportive and friendly.” – Thi Nhu Hao Ho, international student
